Richard Attenborough, the Actor, Director and Producer of many fantastic movies has passed away at the age of 90. You may remember him as the scientist who clones DNA of Dinosaurs in Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park”. He is more famous in India for his production of “Gandhi” which is one of the most brilliant films in film history. However you might be surprised to know that no one came forward to produce this movie since they thought it would be a financial loss having Gandhi as the main character. But the movie was produce by Richard Attenborough himself and went on to become a very successful earning over 20 times its production cost. Most importantly it earned 11 Oscar nominations.
For me the best movie from Richard was “The Great Escape” starring Steve McQueen. Many years ago as a young schoolboy I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie and it is still fresh in my memory. (His brother David Attenborough is a biologist who brings nature to us in his own inimitable style and I am fan of both the brothers.) Rest in Peace Richard!
